In the northern mountain city of Ense Durin, a boy has been orphaned. Clueless, young and somehow still alive, the boy finds himself outside in the harsh wilderness that surounds the remaining rubble of his home and family. With hardly enough consciousness to comprehend that he is alive or even that his home and family are gone forever! The boy wanders unknowingly onward with a thin and dript trail of blood leaving trace of his travel.

Forging the Future

Ense Durin now lies in ruins.  Some fled the destruction down the great river and a few survivors took to the hills.  Riwoor is now under siege and though the brave inhabitants of that great city have defended it with valor, it now looks like it will soon fall.   As news of the destruction spreads, many people are fleeing the coastal and northern areas and taking to the mountains.

Emanresuym - Welcome to the simulation.  With the simulation moving towards a new format in the next couple of months and all the time that is taking, the basic mechanics of this iteration are not being upkept (like the map, etc.) however we are still furthering the story that has been created by the interactions of the participants toward a transition for the next iteration, so feel free to begin your story and see where it takes you.  Just post what you do next.  If you have any questions post them or contact me by PM.

thank you. I understand.

I chose a young kid, so that I would not have to participate much...as I am new to this.

as for my character... I'll write him off as having been picked up by some of the fleeing survivors... and for the future he will be healing and just living untill the timeline progress a good deal

Forging the Future

Attention Past Participants of the Dynamic World Simulation:

We are almost ready to begin preliminary tests of the new format of the simulation.  Stay tuned here for details on how this is to be done.  In the meantime we need to wrap things up with the old system to prepare for the  transition so that we will have some continuity between the two phases.

~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~

Despair and Destruction are everywhere upon the face of the land.  Riwoor has now fallen to the devastating force that is the hoards of the Troll army.  The survivors of the onslaught are fleeing northward towards the mountains.  Now all the coastal cities have succumbed to the unstoppable conquering power of the savage Trolls.

Word begins to spread among the various pockets of haggard refugees that people are gathering on the mountain plateau north of the headwaters of the twin rivers in order to make a final stand.  There is little hope for success, but the danger is closing in all around.  Most begin the long trek by any means available, while those that are left behind are soon overtaken by vanguards of the Troll war-machine.

Time, it seems, is quickly running out . . . . .

It''s like trying to dent your front bumper by backing into a tree.

*Kimosabe rides into a mining village near the westernmost river.*

"It's been how long and nobody's even tried to get a hold of me with the hawks? Why didn't.... oh? Oh really? Wow. I guess that's why. What? I'm a legend? Huh, I kinda like the sound of that."

I do have more flora and fauna logged [and I noticed a couple items missing from the wiki already, I took the liberty of adding some of my earlier discoveries, feel free to edit as you see fit] and interesting tales to share about the Everdark villages.

"All the stress and excitement, however, have taken a toll on my memory and I left my logs back at my home."

I buy more paper (with the money paulscott said I was dumb for keeping it) and head off again. Cryptic, unintelligible writing etched into the well-worn leather vest. [Hint: Foreshadowing for the old-timers]

[If you want to hear my discoveries before the next time I return (if ever) please send a hawk out for me *cough*forummail*cough*. I'll reply as soon as I'm able and you may then relay the message throughout your town and across the countryside, etc...]

Echoing from the distance: "I put a ton of effort into training those hawks, but I guess I know how much legends are appreciated nowadays!"

*Edit* Fatamorgana or Wolfhunter should probably hear what I have to say about the Everdark villages with regards to trolls.

Forum Poll

How much of a folk hero is Kimosabe? (for my benefit to provide you with a truer environment surrounding my character's evolution since I've been away so long)

All my kids want to grow up to be him.
I've heard some songs and myths about him.
I at least know who he is.
He's just popular among the frontiersmen.
Kimo-who?

Forging the Future

And so it was that in the last hours of those that had thus far survived the troll onslaught,  one of the earliest frontier explorers of legend returned after many years.  Much had changed in the land since those early days.  Empires and citadels, villages and trade guilds had risen, prospered and finally fallen, and now everything that the people had worked so hard to build lay in ashes.  But now with the unexpected homecoming of one long absent, a faint glimmer of hope was rekindled in the hearts of those that remained.

As talk of the heroic days of early exploration comes around to the task of mounting a last defense, strange news is brought by the scouts of the camp.  While inspecting the defensibility of the surrounding terrain they happened upon some caves that led a short distance and then opened on to a sweeping coastal plain that sloped down to meet a great sea.  The air was cooler, and a great glowing comet could be seen in a seemingly foreign sky of displaced stars.

Some of the ancient gatherers of lore remembered that just such a comet had been recorded in the skies above the great city of Kardon at the time when the first explorers began their expeditions in this land so many years ago.  As council was held, many expressed fear of what this comet could mean that appeared in the skies in that place where the cave led when no such heavenly object was visible in this place so high in the mountains and far from the sea.

After some deliberation many decided that they would go through the passage and face the unknown rather than the certain destruction that awaited them at the hands of the trolls.  Those that refused to go said they would block the cave entrance and make their last stand when the attack came.  They sent their best wishes with the others as they prepared to depart.

Among those that decided to go were people of many different backgrounds and stations in life.  Few would now know among these desperate refugees who had been town magistrates, rulers of republics, practitioners of specialized crafts, or simple farmers and fishermen.  They all set out on equal footing down the tunnel with what little supplies they had left, hoping against hope that they might survive and make a new life for themselves in that new place they knew nothing about.

   Only time will tell how, or indeed, IF they succeed . . . . . . .

This is the official ending of a successful theoretical test and I wish to thank all involved.
I propose that we retire the thread and add no more posts and let it sink peacefully
into the deep layers of the forum that the deposits and strata of time
might bury it and preserve it as a relic of things past.

As for the future, I am starting a new test that furthers the design, but I can make
no guarantees of how well it will work due to limited resources both temporal and fiscal.
Still, if any wish to participate, information on how to get started right now
can be found on my mmorpg.com blog in the '
getting started' section.
Should you wish to contact me, use the private message/mail system
of mmorpg.com or the email listed in my profile.

Once again, thanks to all who have journeyed with us on this adventure.
