All that other stuff (dev journals, old articles, the Asp article) are all junk. Words mean nothing. As for release, not far enough along to worry about that. What I am currently focused on is, condition. My only thoughts right now about Darkfall, are "What condition is it in, and what condition will it be in." Will the features work? What features are there? Will any features not be there? What are the system requirements? *shrug* I don't know, because Aventurine is saying jack sh*t. Just letting a creditable source try a current or at the very least near current build. Would put alot of those questions to rest. Whether you, I, or anyone likes them is irrelevant they are much more creditable then Asp. No offense to LoD. I had alot of fun playing with them during Shadowbane back when Death server was still jumping. Doesn't even have to be a US mag. It could just be a really really well known UK mag. |

I can see a real movie coming. And i agree they gotta show something more of the game. Infact theyre doing one just now, a new movie. And its upcoming interviews which already been made. What sort of magazines is unknown but were about to get that info upon release. So theres alot of stuff going on. Publisher is a big, big step for the game and it sure is on the positive side of the game. Without a publisher and distributor its kinda hard to release anything. Its a good thing that most trolls seem to have moved Darkfall from vaporware to fears about being unpolished, a bugfeast or just a plain bad game. So now the game seem to exist on most behalfs but now were talking about state of the game. Its going forward.=) Some trolls here wont believe there is a game called Darkfall before it sits in their hard-drives. |

This company wouldn't know a video game from a fucken piece of anti spyware software. All they care about is shipping it out and making some quick sucker money off it. They will be the one sitting on a pole with total loss of credibility when this is over. This whole Fanboi vs. Troll thing here at MMORPG.com most be some sort of nerd record. |

Originally posted by Polarization Aragon your doing it again, remember that reading comprehension ,your links are from 2007 and 2008. Razorwax announced they had signed a publishing deal with Aventurine in December 2002. http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/380/380319p1.html US, December 13, 2002 - Over on the Darkfall Online official site today, there is a note about Razorwax moving to Athens to be closer to their recently acquired publisher:
Signing a publishing deal has made us able to hire more (and much needed) developers. We now have a team of 14 extremely talented people working fulltime on Darkfall. Three more will be hired shortly. An official press release will be issued after the holidays with more information. In the meantime, you should discuss this amazing news with us on our boards! :) -Claus
Did you even read what i wrote? I doubt it since youre reply here is nothing but agreeing with what i just wrote. Here it is again, and read it this time.
Aventurine have been their choice and also their security of having a publisher for the game from starters, but never their only choice. They always had an open mind for better solutions then Aventurine.
Aventurine was originally formed to fund and publish Darkfall.

Community: why has Darkfall had such a hard time securing a solid publisher and with the impending release of both age of Conan and Warhammer online aren't you concerned that the game will be unable to maintain a self sustaining profitable player base considering that the other games have giant budgets and giant advertising campaigns. Tasos Flambouras: In very simple terms, it's not so much as Darkfall having a hard time securing a publisher as it is that publishers have had a hard time securing Darkfall. I'll explain: We do have the capability to self-publish, so the competition to any publishing offer, aside from other offers, is our own plan for self-publication. In our self-publishing scheme we hire the same services that most publishers use so in effect "cutting out the middleman" is usually to our advantage, especially since as a newcomer in the gaming industry it's rare to get a fantastic deal. Furthermore, getting a publishing deal isn't crucial to us in regards to development, and we won't just jump at offers. We have the "luxury" to try to do what's best for the game in this context. That being said, we have been and still are in discussions with publishers who present a good and viable alternative to our self-publishing plan.
Giant budgets and giant advertising campaigns demand giant paydays. We definitely don't need to be a World of Warcraft killer to be successful, but the same may not be true about some of the other games in development. When faced with the question of budget allocation we decided that it's more important for us to first make as good a game as possible and then to market it on its merit. The opposite doesn't work in the long run, and quality would be compromised by taking some of the development resources and throwing them into marketing so we're betting everything on our strength. We couldn't compete with some of the large titles when it comes to marketing since it all comes down to dollars and cents, but we can still make one hell of a game.
Neither me nor you have the fainthest clue of the quality of the game. Only Developers know the state of the game. Your extraordinaly BS-reply get the stupiest reply of the week award, grats. You really deserved it. Any more BS coming? |
