Mark Jacobs has spoken:

Folks,

The way beta is going right now, I'd expect the NDA to be lifted sooner, rather than later. I want to lift the NDA well before the OB. If the Guild Beta goes well, we'll do just that. If it doesn't, well, that's why it's called beta.

As to Open Beta, well, what can I say except it too is right on track as of now.

As always though, dates are still set in mud for a little while longer. If GB goes according to plan (which means we find a bunch of new things to fix but not lots and lots of bunches), the mud will start hardening. This game will be released when it is ready for prime-time and not before. We still have a while to go before the Fall...

Mark

I agree it's a pain having these NDA's, but we have to respect them or else people jump to conclusions. Although there is a good reason why so many respect and uphold WAR's NDA

At least they are gonna lift theirs well before the game hits.  Not just some "You can only see the starting town and talk about the first 10 levels of the game" kind of lift either.

I think that its rather telling, because that means they intend to have the game publicly acceptable, not only before launch, but before OB even.  That denotes a great amount of polishing effort put into place by this team...and regardless of what becomes of WAR, I really respect that.  Fly or fall, they are going to run on their own merits and nothing less.  I'd be hard pressed not to at least pay them one month just to support such principles.  Even if I hate the game...I want to encourage all MMO companies to follow suit in this.

Personally I can't wait for all the people waiting to play the game and tell me their point of view.. rather than trying to sell them mine.

I'm in beta as well and probably wouldn't have the same kind of things to say as you... but that's why I kind of can't wait for a bunch to get in and try it for "real".

I will say that the beta is being run very professionally regardless of how I feel about the product..  which is something positive to say the least.

"We already have two operating MMOs. We launched a game called Ultima Online in 1997. It's still got hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Then there's Dark Age of Camelot, we also have a situation where we have well over 100,000 subscribers."

-Frank Gibeau of Electronic Arts.

Does it seem odd that UO has more subscribers than the best RvR game on the market?

Nothing wrong with that.  Given what you just said, I would expect an objective and unbiased review of what you have seen.  I certainly expect some people to look on the game in a bad light.  We all love different things, and hate different things.  For instance, I'm probably the only one here that still gets a chubby from hearing about turn based battle systems (and I don't mean that bastardized thing that FF11 produced....ick and ew mixed with "jesus I wish they had choked to death before implementing that").  I bet most of you would scorn such a thing in your MMO's...and it would be quite the selling point for me.

So long as you are detailed, and fair, I wouldn't hassle you even once for hating it.  When the NDA is lifted...just remember to not be emotional about what you say.  Being detached is helpful when trying to give us a complete and fair stance.  Exaggerating would ruin it for you, and I really don't wanna see that.  I'm actually interested in what you are going to say at this point.
