I find the 'trust nobody' mantra to be false. In order to succeed in EVE, you need to find people you can trust. Without them, you'll find yourself all alone in the night.

I think a better mantra would be 'Trust is the most valuable EVE community. Don't spend it too generously.'

That is so spot on.

Like he said make joining a good corp your first goal. I personally would recommend a small corp or a small farely new one as this gives plenty of opertunity for real corp advancement and if it does well you will become a 'Core' member in a good corp.

The best thing i find is being a part of a good corp as one of the core members [a groupe of long time members who consider each other friends and trustworthy].

Isn't that "commodity"?

The point of the game is very very simple: the acquisition of power.  Some games will have you collecting items to demonstrate how powerful you are.  EVE is all about attaining that power in any manner you desire.

Do you want to have the most expensive ship in the galaxy with the rarest fittings money can buy?  You can.  Do you want to dominate the trade in an entire region of space, and have that nice feeling that comes with knowing that every time someone buys or sells something in your area of space that they are putting money in your pockets?  You can do that too.  Do you want to be the most feared and hated pirate in your section of space?  Lead your corporation in brutal war over priceless resources?  Help your alliance conquer the galaxy?  You can.  The point of the game is what you decide it is.

Yes the community are rude and obnoxious.  Dont talk to people in the NPC corp.  Dont even look into local, and heavens forbid do not post anything critical of the game on the EVE forums.  Find a small corp to join at the beginning then when you are more comfortable with the game make a move to another corp (or help your first corp attain great new heights).

Why does it seem that there are so many vocal idiots in EVE.  That I cannot answer.  I imagine that its a combination of jealousy, competition and imaginary skill point e-peen comparisons.  The fanboys in this game want you to join so they can kill you.  Trust no one.  Never ever transfer money to anyone else in game unless its a new player and you dont expect to ever see that money again.  Never trust your corp mates with any of your cash, ships or items.  And remember that if it sounds too good to be true, that you will probably lose your ship, money and dignity.
