So I pretty much got bored with loot 10 forest budoc meat quests and decided to check out main land before I decided to invest alot of time into the newbie island.

The first thing I noticed was the city was well done, lots of npcs looking like a real community, anyways I knew I couldnt survive mainlands alone so I asked in regioun chat for somenoe to show me around real fast, so they did as we went through the forest lands I felt it was almost as linear as other games it didnt feel as massive or endless as other games ive played, the group showed me a little bit of lore which was interesting, but something I started to notice is that the mobs while seemed to feel alive, started looking very similar to each other and didnt excite me one bit.

It was as almost they where doing the same things over and over in sequences I know they where not but it just seemed that way. Then we moved on to the fighting which was decent, anyways my main gripe with the game is the setting, its beautiful at the same time it does not appeal to me.

Another thing I didnt like is there where not hybrid skills, yes I loved the skill system for what it is, and the fact you can take on differant roles with one character. But to be honest there was no real way to play a hybrid if you ask me its just hybrids are my favorite. In many ways the game feels like a sandbox but then again it doesnt and it seems there are more animals then there are nasty bad guys or or epic looking aliens for that matter.

Now I know I didnt see the whole game but I have way more fun on oblivion for a sandbox, I am of course still looking for a mmorpg sandbox that is satisfying but ive yet to find one, so it looks like ill be sticking to cox for online play for now, maybe ill give eve online a try.

Dont get me wrong its a good game, but it feels like its lacking somewhere it almost feels like its an illusion with sandbox options but not in the way alot of the community try to make it seem to new players. I am glad some of you enjoy it I really am it just was not for me I wish I could explain what else drove me away but I cant, the only other thing I can think of is the community in the universe channel. Now I know there are some truly nice players in this game but it has plenty of elitists with snobby attitudes who look down on anyone who is knew. I am sorry but no one should be afraid of how to type there question exactly so they dont offend anyone.

I was extremely polite and my questions where rational and no offensive but I got nothing but attitude the first few days I played but it seems it did get better today. Please do not be discouraged to try this game, it may be for you more then me, but it is not the kind of sandbox I am looking for, I will admit the crafting system in ryzom is probably the best out there right now and it is most deffinatly sandboxed.

One thing I did not try was the editor which is a really cool idea, but I dont think it would have kept me around if a world does not capture me then I will probably never like it.

That's a feature. Atys (Ryzom's world) is a living planet teeming with fauna and flora, not some fantasy land that's been ravaged by a meaningless war for umpteen thousand years that at some point resulted in dark magic sundering and mutating stuff into giant spiders, giant rats, Hulk-wannabes, and undead.

Keeper of
the Fence

Much like like a snake is a snake, or a rat is a rat, they generally look the same with slight variations.  Pretty much Atys makes the attempt at creating a world that is similar in this one on many respects.  Some of the species are much tougher than others (like a viper being much more dangerous than a common garden snake), though they bear the same models.  What you will see is that there are some "epic" versions of these creatures that wander about ready to tear a homin a new one (Spurlah, Ora, etc.).

Also there are different species in different lands, so not everything you see in... for example the Majestic Gardens, will you not see in the desert.  Landscapes will also differ greatly from region to region, bearing different climates, plant species and hidden dangers.

As seasons change, you will find that your animal patterns will change, and adjust to the shifting times.  This can make things dangerous for some who are more used to certain traveling patterns.  The weather patterns can also adjust what you find underneath the soil.  Many materials can only be harvested at certain periods of time, or only when it rains for example.

Ryzom and its planet Atys is far from static and while alot may appear to be the same at first, getting out deeper into the mainlands may help offset that idea.

Live Life today, Because tomorrow is but a dream and yesterday only a
memory!

Good post nice to see some 1 out there can give a review with negative aspects but are honest one's not something that is just not worth mentioning.

The reason a lot of us love this game is that it is not your typical scenario where the world is at war for 1 reason or another it is just a World that we get to live in and do as we please basically. I know over the last few days we have had some blow ins that were just there deliberately trolling the chat channels and being complete ass hats so this may be what you have encountered in my experience in this game ppl love helping and love being involved in what it is you do. There was one person yesterday that litterally sat there just answering Questions for the newbies ( and i might add there is a healthy stream of them coming in). The best thing about this game is that it is up to you what you do with your Time in Atys and to me that is an absolute blessing, no more feeling like im in Competition with fellow gamers just a mere feeling like i am part of the World just like the creatures that roam it.

The setting is one of the things about Ryzom I love the most. It's original.

A virtual world shouldn't resemble real life to much ... it should keep enough gaming/entertainment content to make it worth leaving real life for :). How is that presented in Ryzom?

Google "MMORPGMaker" if you want to make your own MMORPG.
