GW EQ1/2 SWG MxO PS DDO AO WoW EVE CoH/V (P)EU SoR FFXI VG TR PotBS AoC

> GW2 & Fallout MMO

Greets.

Disclaimer: Please note this is MY opinion - dont take it too hard - and dont go nuts with flames!

========================

Remember the golden days when we could branch out into any specialization and become a light-saber wielding entertainer? Basically we had the freedom to allocate points to any skill (if we met the prequisites) and make our character truely unique.

NGE killed that. The backlash and bitterness still spills over daily.

Given: That SOE/LucasArts will not go back to a classic server.

So how do we resolve this in a way that both sides of the fence are "moderately" satisfied and *perhaps* make SWG rise up from the ashes once again?

Note: The current "iconic" professions have talent/expertise trees now like any other MMO. We have 45 points to allocate in 2 branches any given profession - again very common point system. This enables us to dabble within each profession to make a somewhat unique character.

Also note that each of these professions are pretty fun to play - and also quite funky now (with classic LucasFilm pyrotechics and eye-candy-magickery).

RECOMMENDATION:

  1. Grant ALL professions to everyone from start (exactly like what we have today - just add extra [TABS] for each profession.
  2. Retain* all 2 sub-branches of EACH profession for ALL professions in the Talent/Expertise trees.
  3. Retain a total of 45 points to distribute over ALL the possible professions/brances.

SUMMARY:  We will have a total of 45 points (over 90 levels) to spend across all 19+ professions (thats right, not 9, but 19+ professions!).

CURRENT PROFESSIONS:

  1. Jedi
  2. Bounty Hunter
  3. Spy
  4. Smuggler
  5. Officer
  6. Medic
  7. Entertainer
  8. Commando
  9. Trader (Artisan)
  10. Trader (Engineering)
  11. Trader (Structures)
  12. Trader (Domestics)
  13. Trader (Shipwright)
  14. Trader (Armorsmith)
  15. Trader (Weaponsmith)
  16. Trader (Reverse Engineering - Ground)
  17. Trader (Reverse Engineering - Space)
  18. Beast Master
  19. Politician

+ OTHER PROFESSIONS:

SWG Devs had mentioned two other professions on the forums that were in the air - but not implemented:

  • Gardener / Horticulture
  • Droid Commander

SOLUTION:

Everyone can now be anyone - we can branch out anyway we feel like it! We can be that FULLY JEDI SPECCED all powerful character.

OR

We can be a hybrid medic bounty-hunter who does some weapons reverse engineering on the side and has a few sales terminals, and who likes to dance naked in cantinas at odd hours.

Sure - its not the "real" pre-cu (bugged as hell) thing - but this is as close to it as we can get without requiring a classic server  - nor even requiring any major code rehaul by the devs.

This will be an updated, (relatively) bug-free, and stable, win-win solution!

OFCOURSE:  ALL trees will have to be RE-BALANCED to prevent over-powerful characters and exploits.

OBSERVATION: SKILLS will need to be reworked so they unlock with certain talent/expertise points. (eg. Medic points may unlock a certain skill - BH point may unlock another - and so on. This idea can be discussed/ further developed.)

CONCLUSION:

  • 45 point allocation system
  • ALL profession point allocation (within pre-requisite branches).
  • Tactical builds.
  • Total sandbox freedom.

Now isnt this a dream come true?

============================

PS. If you like this idea - please make your voice heard to the SWG teams. Our voice CAN make them take us seriously. Many thanks.

Tiny dreams in a huge world.  But your idea is sound, and I support it 100%....I miss the good old days, but I have all but given up in hopes that the new LA/Bioware venture is something worthwhile.

Between the velvet lies
There''s a truth as hard as steel.

Ssnautilus,

I appreciate trying to make positive changes that would benefit both current and ex-subscribers, but I think the best all of us could hope for is SWG2.

Honestly something that truely captures the Star Wars experince, with both collision detection and atnmospheric flight (amungst many other shortcomings that SWG currently offers),  is something ALL of us can wish for.

They should just leave it the way it is now and focus on things such as performance, graphics/animations, and small gameplay additions/ideas that will slowly bring back the playerbase.

STOP WHINING!

lol...nothing is going to bring back the playerbase. People have moved on to other, better games and they aren't coming back.

The problem with the game is the NGE itself. You can add new graphics or animations but it's still the NGE. You can copy as many things from WoW as you want and it's still the NGE. Honestly there is more interest in illegal versions of the game than there is in the SOE version at this point.

By saying playerbase I wasn't trying to infer "Vets" but I guess that is what is came across as.

Just talking about making small improvements, keeping the subscribers they have, and slowly working to bring in new players to atleast try and double what they have now.
