First, Welcome to EVE!
Second, sometimes you have to ignore cosy... hes been hitting the sause lately it seems :)
I have two suggestions: Start corp hunting asap and visit the Eve-O forums. A good corp to look at is Eve University (http://www.eve-ivy.com/). They take in new players and train them in the ways of Eve. Also, the Eve-O forums are a good source of information. Just stay away from the CAOD forums... thats where all the people who should be locked up in padded rooms hang out.
Taram I know what your talking about. It was a conference at Fanfest '06, I think, where they did a history of CCP and Eve thing. They did say Eve was in a very threatened state late 03 and early 04.
If im not mistaken, I think there is a video out on youtube of that conference.
I believe in a bit rougher method. Join a corp of a major alliance like BoB, Goon, RA, etc... and learn the ropes. Be a scout for a few weeks and learn the ins and outs of fleet movement, ship roles and how they interact within a fleet then move on into ECM.
This will let you fly with good FCs and good pilots. You will experience everything from large fleet lagfest battles to capital ship hotdrops and POS warfare to small roaming gang pvp. You will see, do and experience more this way and learn much quicker.
When your done learning leave and join a smaller corp thats more suited to what you like or stay on and move up the ranks and FC your own fights.

Excellent point Selencia!
It's been mentioned elsewhere but not here I think. In EVE, what my friends and I do as well as what my enemy and friends do, actually changes the game world! This is nearly unique in MMOs and (IMO) nobody does it better than EVE.
This.
The fact that you and/or your collective can alter the world of Eve is awe inspiring. Whether you corner the market in a region of space or you capture a station with guns blasting a path through your enemy, you changed the world of Eve. You effect everyone around you and everyone around you effects you.
Damn Distiler beat me too it :)
Lui Kai did an awesome job pulling together all the ambulation content.
@Minsc - Yup they are going to have systems with a full working version of Ambulation set up so people can play. I wish I had the time and $$ to go to fanfest this year
P.S. If CCP follows their past patterns they will be announcing the Ambulation release date at Fanfest.
Aside from questing, what do you spend most of your time doing in-game?
