I must say that i really liked the combat system in the rpg game "mount and blade". It´s an small new rpg game with really impressive combat system.

Your questions is sort of narrowing it down to JUST PVP games.The BEST combat system period is in FFXI because it covers more areas than any other game out there.There game actually could have the best PVP on the planet however they chose to make there game follow the "Let's get along" rather than the "let's kill and hate each other" routine.
If i was strictly going for straight out PVP type combat,witch IMO IS the only way to go for actual skills,it would be EXACTLY like Unreal Tournament 1/2.You need maps that are specifically designed for PVP and weapon BALANCE,so that you have to think about witch weapon to use when, where and how.These games i see out there are all horrible for achieving anything skillful.Even if they try to utilize UT type PVP,they FAIL in there map designs.This is why PVP will NEVER belong in a RPG,because RPG type terrains and buildings are not designed for skillful PVP.
I didn't think much of any of them.I did not understand what exactly the Warhammer idea was trying to achieve that was so innovative?Was Warhammer trying to achieve solo quests? that is what i took from it.In EQ2 last i played they were adding zones that scale down to player or players and the level of difficulty.YES these zones had quests ,so in essence they wee achieving the EXACT same thing,but again i am not sure exactly what WARHAMMEr is trying to achieve so i may be off here.
The AOC idea i guess is sort of unique but is not a good idea.I would rather learn something a little more challenging than arrow directions.Just the idea of arrow directions sounds too superficial to me,to be counted as anything exciting or challenging or thinking.This idea is actually a variation of the FINAL FANTASY [console] special attacks where by you have to enter directions and symbols to achieve the special attacks,so really it has already been done.I can't quite remember witch game it was but i think it was FF8 or FF9 or maybe it was even 10.
I do not think ANY game out there is even close to Final Fantasy when comes to innovation in combat,just because they have covered soooo many different areas in not only there console games but there FFXI as well,using the renkai chart/combos/sub classes and attacks that utilize more than one player and they have levels of renkai varying from level 1 combos to level2/3,then you can add magic bursts,geesh other games should be embarrassed at how far ahead the Final Fantasy genres are .
As far as the council of stellar management goes,that is not really unique as a whole.Sure they have 9 players i think it was ,but they are to take input from the whole community,that is something SOE did with EQ2 long ago.For a whole year at least maybe longer they put out petitions to every player ,chocked full of questions as to what they liked or did not like about the game.So in reality both ideas are taking input from the community,where as EVE is relying on the 9 players to take from all,but in reality they may ignore all and just utilize what they feel personally.I would rather choose to trust the Developer to arrange feedback rather than players in the game,as i have ALWAYS seen players to be VERY biased towards themselves, whilst not caring about the ENTIRE game community.

The funny thing was that one of the guys that I was partying with said the reason why I was dying because my gear wasn't good enough. I was a lvl 24 whm and I just recently came back to this game. I had on a lvl 1 shirt that game me +1 to MP gain when rested and a bunch of other MND gear. So my defence wasn't all that great but I could take like 3 hits before I would die. Whoever told you ,you died because of your gear is a total noob ,and you can tell them i said so.Gear means VERY little in FFXI,the biggest attribute to gear in FFXI is for accuracy ,all else means little[cept thf and DEX].If you are a mage and a taru at that,you cannot take anymore than maybe 2-3 hits and your dead.
Even if they wanted to debate your gear,you would have gear related to better heals or better enfeebs or buffs,NONE of witch relates to taking hits .The next time they want to talk gear,ask them why RMT can level up using level 1 gear as a level 30/40/50?and i have seen it MANY times,all the rmt wearing that green noob gear.
A lot of players like to talk about not needing a tank,because of dncrs or whatever,but the fact is that they still have to be tanking in some fashion,meaning they need some form of hate control.
If there is something that breaks the mold ,i have probably done it.for example,using the MNK is only doable because of his very high hit points.The fight can not go on long because eventually those HP will be very low causing massive heals and hate loss.One subtle thing to get it started is having the tank PULL,this will at least have the hate in the right spot to start and will give the healer a chance to heal a bit.You will also need support healing with a poor tank because that way you can alternate heal,one healer WILL get the hate and probably die.Provoke is a VERY powerful tool,so having a second player with Provoke will take the heat off of the MNK tank and excessive heals by the healer.
There are other things when considering there is no tanks.You can get a summoner,they have avatars that can really help a player/party with stuff like blinks and heals and if things look bad there 2 hour is potent.

All these games you have posted are using older engines and were started at least 2-3 years ago.I think Stargate may be using UE3 ,but after seeing first glimpses i doubt it.
We won't get a better view of all the games under development until 2009.I can tell you this,there is a TON of next gen MMOG's coming out in 2010,this may perhaps be the time when all the WOW bandwagon jumpers finally realize there are some great games out there.
We are going to see REALISM in graphics and facial expressions,LARGE content areas with seamless worlds.I am amazed at how soon we will see this but a lot of the developers are claiming it is possible and we will be seeing it.
There are some real developers out there developing high tech code to incorporate in our games like realistic foliage/physics the whole works.
Unreal technology and Epic games are hiring tons of high tech firms to incorporate cutting edge technology into the unreal engine.You can bet ,there will be some great games coming out that utilize the UE3.There is hopes for that Roger Clemens/Todd Mcfarlane MMORPG that also uses the UE3[38 studios].There is a lot of foreign developers ,including many rich guys from Asia and of course our beloved Square Enix/Sega,heck just about everyone is going to be using the UE3 for our next gen games,they all say the same thing"it is just too powerful and easy to use".

i can almost call chronicles of spellborn a next gen title since it seems real-time and can dodge melee attack with real human-skill involve. no idea if we can dodge a fireball though but anyway the crappy graphic is holding it back from calling it a next gen title.
age of conan is almost be called next gen too but sadly not. it has real-time attack button but you still cant dodge a fireball right? and the ultimate hold back is the graphic.. sur ethe graphic is advance with all that hdr lighting ect or whatever it is but the overall visual is still look like neverwinter nights 2 even in dx10. it wont change the graphic style.
next gen mmo must have both innovating department, true real-time and graphic. aion is just a souped up lineage2 with great graphic and a blend of wow controls. super lineage2. gameplay still the same generic mmo out there. cant dodge fireball blah blah no human-skill involve. only stat involve. mmo need to stop making stat level based and make it human-skill based. cause whoever high level win is no fun.
MMO WITH STAT BASED LEVEL BASED IS ENCOURAGING CURRUPTCY...... PLAYERS WILL START ILLEGALLY/LEGALLY BUYING IN-GAME CURRENCY TO RAISE STAT AND LEVEL UP FASTER. so do you want to race each other with this kind of currupcy system? hell no i wouldnt even play. the people that buys in-game currency is jus dont notice the manipulation system.
MMO WITH PURE HUMAN-SKILL BASED, TRUE REAL-TIME, GREAT GRAPHIC.... THAT IS NEXT GEN MMO.

You want to see something that may be ACTUAL next gen,perhaps NCSOFT's REAL developers can show you.
Head over to the actual developers of lineage2,they are now running their own company ,with lots of cash to fund it.The company is called Bluehole studio and they claim their combat system will blow away the stuff we see now.Everything that is modernized will be in there next game...code named S1.
It is funny that most of the original developers of these hit games are not even with those companies anymore,including the guys who made WOW.
I think we have to wait until 2010 until we see the REAL new tech games come out,because they all just started developing ,using the Unreal 3 Tech engine,so it will take some time.
I am not sure ,but i think Aion is also using unreal tech no?Even if it is using ue2,it is still a very good engine ,capable of doing a lot,but is for sure limited in quality behind the UE3.I am not sure who is running the AION project and weather they have any qualifications or skills from previous work IDK,all up in the air.
