My ideal career would be serving the American people, day in and day out.
I have considered the military, many times, but I do not think it is for me for varied reasons.
We will see, however, what the future holds.
No. The population has not gotten better. It is worse.
Yes. The game is "active" if you mean taking it off of life support and -gasp!- it sill breaths.
The developers, I think have done some cool and smart things, though:
My style of gameplay, however, is different; I just group with friends, maybe once or twice a week. I check old school named mobs from time-to-time. Might slay a dragon. /shrug. Never was a raider, though, I was a Raid Officer (old, old school) and leader of a raid guild. I am, and perhaps always will be, a sort of explorer, grouper, socializer.... Trying to find a game that has that, and until them, I will play EQ.
Actually, you might want to check on Vanguard soon. I keep hearing good things, and I will keep following the game's progress. Besides Vanguard, really, all of the games are lacking, in my view, in imagination, depth, complexity, challenge (raiding is NOT what I mean by challenging), world immersion, customization, fascinating Questing, and social MMORPG features. I canont log-in to slay 5 things anymore to level to advance in a decision-tree for skills to raid. Where is my world? It might be Runescape, a freaking browser game - that is free.
90% sandbox
10% theme park
The vast, majority of us "gamers" want a sandbox.
So developers keep giving us theme parks.
And wonder why they cannot slice a piece of WoW's pie. WHISPER: We want a different pie (with some of the flavors, ingredients and things we like in WoW).

Result? MMORPG's are EXTREMELY cheap. I can subscribe to FOUR MMO's for the price of ONE PS3 or PC game...
You are playing the wrong games. Ha, ha ha! Aside: I wish people with your "financial logic" would shop at my brother's online store more.
I play Warcraft III online, for free, in fact playing as I type this. I play online regularly. The game is timeless, and players can customize all sorts of maps from roleplaying to PvP style to more strategy - you name it.
I also play CoD online. I continuously play Sim City as well. My games have a much (much) longer lifespan than yours.
You could almost take your list and put it in reverse order for ME. I , too, have an 8800 gtx, yet graphics for me are the least important.
I like to be fascinating. I like to "feel" as if the character that I develop is unique and part of something large in the world I am exploring. Content is crucial in all respects from grouping to Questing to tradeskills. Community is increasingly important, I think, because I enjoy the social aspect to MMORPGs more, today, than ever before.
