    • would you trust ncsoft enough to buy aion given they ve closed down tabula rasa so soon ?
    •  Tabula Rasa was a terrible game its concept was changed multiple times, its project was started multiple times costing NCSoft millions which they were never able to gain back. They're essentially bleeding money by leaving Tabula Rasa run, its not the first time they've cut losses that are justified by the state of the game.

NcSoft went into their deal with the Garriotts with good faith on the part of NcSoft.  They expected competence, talent and effort and were disappointed every step of the way.   .

People should keep in mind that NcSoft also must listen to their stockholders.  Would you buy NcSoft stock if the company continued to pour money down the TR rathole?

Aion was developed by developers, not by a egomaniac whose star power has come and gone.   Lineage and COH and of course GW are successful.   I think NcSoft is a good company, has been treated badly  by a a selfish American drama queen, and deserves a break.

      Tabula Rasa
    • well i m having fun playing tabula rasa as a single player game
    •  I wonder how much they lost?

Stockholders definitely are owed an accounting.  RGTR is probably the single most expensive video game flop in history.

Remember, this cost a lost more than development.  NcSoft paid for the Garriott brand.  They thought it meant big talent and great effort.  The Garriott brothers were paid $43 million in cash upfront and 6% (2.6 million shares) of NcSoft in stock options.  That's about $70-80 million and not a penny yet for development.  There was one version that the big talent decided to throw out, so really they developed two games since 2001.  If each game cost $20M to develop, RGTR could be costing over $120 M.  You can delve into a lot at NcSoft.net.  The company is very transparent.

This is inline with what the Korea Times reported and was insulted and  ridiculed by the Martketing director of NcAustin...who, I believe, is now in Seattle.

Here's what the chronicle had to say about the closing, and it wasn't a puff piece.

You mentioned the Austin paper, probably the American Statesman.  The reporters there, especially the long-termer Lilly Rockwell, are frequent guests at Richard Garriott's lavish entertainments.   I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of "presents" came their way, as well.  He's had a lot of gaming media in his corner.   It helps to avoid criticism to really cultivate the media.

    • SAVE TABULA RASA
    •  Stingy?  You think NcSoft is stingy?  They've practically ruined themselves indulging your lazy cult figure, Richard Garriott.

It costs Ncsoft a million a month to run RG's TR.  The CFO said as much.  The game was bringing in half that.

If you want to challenge someone to show a little soul and generosity, challenge Lord British the Selfish!  He and his brother have the cash to keep it running.
