    • I did some research and it look like I was wrong about Smed being involved from EQ from the beginning. =C Sorry about that. With that said, I still hate the turn SoE mmo's have taken. Either way, I was wrong and I will admit it... I just wish Eq, and Eq2 could make some new player armor instead of recoloring 10 models over and over. (Link that proved me wrong.) http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/everquesttheruinsofkunark/news_2580857.html

    • actually Shot5000, Smedley originally hired McQuaid in 1996 to work on EverQuest for Sony Interactive Studios America..you should do your history :)

    • smedly on speed

    • Yeah, I don't hate the man at all. It's just SoE seems to be doing some really bad things as of late. EQ and EQ2 have like released under 10 armor models for pc character since 2001 combined? EQ2 still uses the CPU to run Video with no dual core support? And the entire SWG thing? I'm surprised SoE is still around.

    • Smedly didn't do jack. Sony is washed up and makes second rate games. The only thing Sony has done in the past few years and break games. Verant made EQ not Sony. Can we request no info from Sony ever be posted on mmorpg.com and leave it to the real games?

    • I'd nearly forgotten what Satan looked like. Thanks for the refresher.

    • Obviously I've heard of Smedley before, but this is the first time I've seen him. Something is not right with this guy.

    • I think Shot5000 should learn the history before telling people they are wrong.
  • Mitara(posted Sat Aug 23 2008)
    • I must admit, in some ways I do admire Smedley. He has somehow been able to keep SOE alive, despite failure after failure and bad decision after bad decision. Wonder how he does it?

    • @temuchin Brad McQuaid is the biggest influence to mmorpg's today. Its terrible what happened to his reputation :(
  • Shot5000(posted Sat Aug 23 2008)
    • Sorry Temuchin. Smed didn't invent, make, or even develop or design EQ. Verant Interactive did. Then SoE bought them out when EQ was at it's peak. (Somewhere between Luclin and PoP) Do your history before giving a lecture about how good a man is that had nothing to do with MMO's other then buying them out to turn them into money grabs.

    • Say what you will about the man, if Smedley didn't exist there would be no Warhammer Online, no WOW, no CoH, no Guildwars, no nothing except Korean MMOs inspired by UO. EQ proved to the industry that MMOs can make big money and Blizzard and Mythic would certainly never have developed their MMOs if EQ hadn't been a runaway success. Cryptic and Arenanet wouldn't even exist. LMAO. You all are on site called MMORPG.COM. The genre of MMORPG wouldn't even exist as we know it if Smed hadn't sold the Sony brass on the idea of MMORPGs in 1996 and launched Verant to publish EQ. Sure SOE's had its share of stinkers over the years but 10 years later every american MMO is still basically following the formula established by Smed with only slight upgrades and adjustments(raiding endgame, epic gear, tank/healer/dps, expansions with new continents/levels/classes/races as a means to "update" games year after year). I haven't played a SOE game in years but if you know anything of history, Smed's the 2nd most influential person in the commercialization of MMOs after Garriott with UO

    • awwww No screamin fan running up to punch him the nuts, disappointing.
  • Eussic(posted Thu Aug 21 2008)
    • The reason he doesn't blink is that he is a demon from hell set on destroying the mmo world as we know it!!!!
  • st.patrick(posted Thu Aug 21 2008)
    • you notice he said nothing about SWG? hahaha

  • eccoton(posted Thu Aug 21 2008)
    • First time I have seen the infamous Smedley. What is the deal with his eyes? That no blinking and raised eyebrow thing is what my students do when they are explaining why they missed class.

    • Never trust a man who doesn't blink.
  • cosimusta(posted Thu Aug 21 2008)
    • I bet he sux at the pvps
  • ebonfire(posted Thu Aug 21 2008)
    • How he has remained CEO after driving away the fan base in almost every SOE game that's been published under them is beyond me. Hahah "listen to feedback players give us".. yeah too bad your just too dumb to do anything with it John, and now its been confirmed in my mind that you do look like a creepy used car salesman.
  • Souvec(posted Thu Aug 21 2008)
    • I dunno, seems like he hasn't been sleeping well for sometime now. I think the looks he had was that someone was willing to interview him, as if they cared to hear what he had to say.
  • crowt244(posted Thu Aug 21 2008)
    • Lol..no joke :) As if he's waiting for some disgruntled consumer to hit'em in the back of the head with a bat :)
  • Neopsych(posted Thu Aug 21 2008)
    • Hold on. he does not have the horns of the devil and is surrounded by the fires of hell. These forums have misled me. He does have that "rabbit in the headlights" look about him though. Would it hurt to smile John?
