The SCS Software blog has been updated with a new post that is sure to fascinate American Truck Simulator players and fans. In it, the team describes a new concept called “Road Trip” that the team is working on. Road Trip will allow long-haul 18-wheeler drivers to literally escape the cab and hit the road for much-needed downtime. The team reminds players that the goal of the game is not only to drive Class 8 trucks but also to explore the game world “through different types of vehicles” along the way to new experiences.
What is Road Trip?
“Once introduced,” the blog reads, “it should allow players to enjoy the vast landscapes of ATS, not only from the cab of an 18-wheeler, but also from behind the wheel of, say, a powerful pickup or even a sports car.”
The team isn’t ready to reveal all of the details of Road Trip just yet. According to the post, the development of this new concept is still in its early stages, and many details are still being hammered out. However, there is one statement that sounds incredibly fun for longtime fans of the game.
“Our vision for Road Trip goes well beyond simply introducing new types of vehicles. We’re also exploring fresh gameplay opportunities — ways to give players a reason to drive them. That might mean taking on new kinds of tasks and jobs, or simply enjoying the open road, discovering landmarks, and soaking in the scenery.”
Fans concerned that the core gameplay can rest assured that the team is still excited about trucking content. A dedicated team has been assembled to focus on the new concept that is separate from the team behind the base game arc. That means the ongoing roadmap for map expansions, trucks, trailers, and other updates is unchanged.
