Developer Larian Studios announced that Microsoft identified the cause of the corrupted Baldur’s Gate 3 saves on Xbox, and will be issuing a firmware update to fix it. The team noted that players will be able to update their consoles manually on January 16th, or wait a week longer for the update to roll out globally.
Larian also noted that they have not been able to independently verify this fix, but the team is still sure that Microsoft have gotten to the bottom of it. For those who absolutely cannot wait before diving back into Faerun, the devs have also shared a workaround that is supposed to keep your progress until the more permanent fix.
It involves using the Larian cross-save system:
- Create a Larian account at larian.com/account.
- Go to the options menu from the main menu. Under gameplay, activate cross-saves, linking your Larian and Xbox accounts.
- From now on, your last 5 saves will automatically be uploaded to the Larian servers. It is important that you do not exit the game before the upload is finished. The upload is finished when the message “Syncing cloud save” is no longer visible.
- If the firmware bug occurs, you will need to re-activate the cross-save functionality in the options screen. This will give you access to the save games that were successfully uploaded.
