Hamster Corporation and Bandai Namco announced the return of the legendary arcade shooter Tokyo Wars. The new version of the game comes under the title Arcade Archives 2: Tokyo Wars. The game will be available on Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Moreover, the original Arcade Archives: Tokyo Wars comes to PS4 and Nintendo Switch on November 6.
The original Tokyo Wars was released in 1996, challenging players to pick a side and battle for control over the city. Now, the Arcade Archives series, renowned for faithfully reproducing classic arcade games, is bringing it back. Arcade Archives Tokyo Wars 2 revitalizes this experience, preserving the franchise’s signature gameplay while enhancing it with modern features. This new installment includes a fully customizable “Original Mode” for adjusting difficulty, display, and controls. Furthermore, the developers have expanded the package with new ways to play, including a Time Attack mode and a Split-Screen option.
The game also supports VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), delivering a level of visual fluidity and responsiveness that faithfully recreates the feel of the original arcade cabinet. For retro enthusiasts, authentic CRT monitor filters are available to recapture the authentic atmosphere and visual style of the 1990s. Finally, the competitive spirit is kept alive globally. In both Hi-Score Mode and Caravan Mode, players can compete for dominance on online leaderboards.
