Behind the Scenes of Zenless Zone Zero – Learn More About Character Optimization & Story

Developer HoYoverse shared two more Zenless Zone Zero’s Behind the Scenes videos, covering two hotly discussed topics: character optimization and story. In the first, the team reveals their approach to a long-term commitment in optimizing characters’ gameplay experience and the reason behind their implementation.

“From an objective perspective, as newer versions are released, the earlier characters are limited by the system and assets at that point in time, and there could be some aspects that are “not as modern”. And as we continue to release new characters, we’ll also realize that we’ll need to raise our standards for the experience we provide, and that applies to older characters, too. On the other hand, players will invariably invest a lot of resources, time, and feelings into their favorite characters, and want these characters to be able to tackle certain challenges for a longer period.”

Which characters will be optimized? Two aspects are considered. First, the limited S-rank characters. Having older characters fit into updated team compositions and adapt to new environments will create more opportunities – but some struggle to do so. This is where player feedback comes into play. The enhancements will be rolled out for Burnice, Soldier 0: Anby and Ellen.

Then, the standard S-ranks, who act as important supports and transitional replacements when players are building their squads. There are also plenty of players who are attached to these characters. Therefore, the decision has been made to gradually strengthen all Standard S-rank Agents. The first on the list are Soldier 11 and Grace.

The second video features Zenless Zone Zero cinematics team going all out – cutscenes and motion comics creation, revelation of the untold stories hidden between frames and emotions. If you have wondered how ZZZ manages to find its balance between emotion and action, fluidity and sharpness, darkness, colors and humor, this is the one for you.
