There are heroic fantasy adventures, and then there are adventures organized by people whose business plan probably includes the phrase “acceptable casualty margins.” Naturally, Resolution Games has decided the latter sounds far more entertaining. The studio has announced today that Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked has received a brand-new free update inspired by Penny Arcade’s long-running Acquisitions Incorporated universe. The update is available now across all supported platforms and adds a five-quest side storyline filled with questionable business ventures, magical disasters, and the sort of decision-making that usually ends with someone yelling, “This seemed smarter five minutes ago.”
The update folds directly into Campaign 1 as a parallel storyline players can tackle alongside the main campaign. You can also experience it as a standalone arc after finishing the core adventure. According to Resolution Games, the new content adds roughly two to four hours of gameplay, depending on player skill level and how often parties become distracted by greed, panic, or both simultaneously.
At the center of the update is Omin Dran, the famously dubious CEO of Acquisitions Incorporated, once again voiced by Penny Arcade co-creator Jerry Holkins. Players will encounter Omin at the Emerald Tavern, where he recruits adventurers into increasingly suspicious schemes involving infiltration, arcane experimentation, and a business strategy that sounds legally questionable even by fantasy world standards.
Acquisitions Incorporated’s tone naturally meshes with Demeo’s tabletop-inspired gameplay. While many Dungeons & Dragons adaptations lean heavily into epic storytelling and high-fantasy drama, Acq Inc has always embraced the chaotic energy of an actual tabletop session, where half the party ignores the main quest to chase a terrible idea they became emotionally attached to twenty minutes earlier.
Resolution Games also confirmed this is only part of its ongoing support plans for Battlemarked. More updates are planned, along with a paid DLC expansion later this year. The game itself continues carving out a unique space between traditional tabletop roleplaying and streamlined tactical co-op gaming. It captures much of the social chaos of D&D sessions without requiring one friend to sacrifice their entire evening becoming the Dungeon Master. That alone may qualify as magic.
