Deulyst source doe is now free to use as developer Counterplay Games makes the game open source.
The team behind Deulyst just made the ultimate free to play conversion by making the title’s source entirely Open Source. Players who have fond memories of this tactical card game that played with turn based tactics can re enter the arena now, with a bit of technical know-how. Developer Counterplay games has posted the game engine, art assets, and every other bit of works tied to the game up on popular programming code base GitHub under the Creative Commons Zero v1.0 Universal license, meaning fans, developers, and anybody who wants to use the engine can rebuild, modify, or expand on the original game for free.
Deulyst might be free for hobbyists to pick up, despite the unusual format, but it wasn’t always like this. After a successful Kickstarter in 2017, Counterplay developer its squad-based combat system for PC and Mac. A whole army of characters, factions, spells, and squads could be pieced together t and take to the arena in live battles in the online world. Unfortunately, Bandai Namco shut down the online servers on February 27th, 2020 at 3:00 PM PST, with no plans to bring it back.
The people behind Deulyst announced the code giveaway in a YouTube video just yesterday, confirming the full details. You can check that out above, and while this isn’t as simple as grabbing a free game from Amazon’s Prime Gaming, it could prove an invaluable recourse for indie developers looking to rework a well-received title in their own image. You can head over to GitHub now to grab the game in it’s raw form.
