Doom The Dark Ages Shared the Accessibility Guide

According to the developers, DOOM: The Dark Ages is designed to be approachable and accessible, allowing as many people as possible to become the DOOM Slayer and wage a medieval war against Hell. To that end, the team shared the accessibility guide that can be found on the official site, outlining gameplay customization options available. That includes combat difficulty presets, text size scaling options (for UI, HUD, and subtitles), extensive controls remapping, high contrast mode to help enemies stand out from the background and more.

The first time you launch Doom: The Dark Ages, you will be able to adjust a number of settings, including text size. Additional settings can be adjusted via the Main Menu before you begin playing. Each game save slot can have a different difficulty profile.

Accessibility Menu duplicates settings from other options menus in one place for ease of discoverability and quick use in gameplay. Below, you can find some of these settings. Check out the official site to find out more:

  • Gameplay: auto-sprint; show or hide various visual effects for the daze highlight, falter/daze circles and parry circle. In addition, tutorials and objective markers can be shown or hidden.
  • Weapon Selection: auto-switch weapon (empty), auto-switch weapon (new), weapon bob, quick switch style all affect the way weapon switching happens. Note that when weapon bob is enabled, weapons equipped by the Slayer have motion while moving through the environment. Turning this option off may reduce motion-related discomfort, but it doesn’t completely take out weapon recoil.
  • Accessibility Section: enable parry recolor, environmental screen shake, shield throw seek;
  • High Contrast Mode Functionality allows players to change world desaturation, color highlight categories, and more.

For the UI settings, Difficulty options, Subtitle selection and more, check out the official site. Doom: The Dark Ages launches today, May 15, via Battle.net, Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Windows PC.
