Electronic Arts is Ditching Origin for EA Desktop

Electronic Arts is leaving Origin behind for a new app called EA Desktop, described by the company as the “next-generation PC gaming platform.” The company promises faster downloads and updates as well as simpler access to games, fewer clicks, playtime controls and the ability to connect with friends across various platforms.

“The EA Desktop app is being designed to deliver a frictionless and socially connected experience that is faster for players to get into their games,” EA senior vice president Michael Blank said in an interview with GamesBeat. “We have revealed some of this, but we haven’t revealed all of it.”

The change is doubly interesting with EA migrating its titles to Steam and introducing EA Play subscription service as a part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
