End of Abyss — Immersive Horror Announced

Section 9 Interactive, founded by former Tarsier Studios veterans behind the Little Nightmares, has shared more details about their new project End of Abyss. The game promises to take players on a sci-fi horror adventure, blending together top-down view, metroidvania elements and suffocating atmosphere. Moreover, one of the key features is tied to controls, bringing twin stick shooting to the table.

End of Abyss offers players to take a role of a young combat technician, Cel. She has minimal fighting force, armed only with a pistol and special scanner, yet doesn’t back off from the danger. Hearing the distorted voice from a mysterious box, she steps into an old underground facility. In the halls of a sprawling complex, her tech skills are vital for survival.

Key Game Features

  • Controls: Left stick moves character; right aims independently.
  • Camera: Top-down camera shifts isometric in tight spots, emphasizing Cel tiny, vulnerable existence in the middle of swarms of fleshy horrors.
  • Scanner: Marks map points of interest, reveals lore/secrets/enemy weaknesses.
  • Combat: Showcased and ammo-limited without hectic action. Co-founders Marcus and Mattias Ottvall emphasize slow pacing for deeper dread and immersion.
  • Upgrade system: Gear upgrade is crucial for survival.

End of Abyss is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Epic Games Store) in 2026.
