Make it three in a row. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang pulled the biggest crowd at the Esports World Cup again in 2026. Esports Charts clocked the MLBB Mid Season Cup at 2.89 million peak viewers, and Moonton Games made sure everyone heard about the streak. Here’s the odd bit. The Grand Final didn’t deliver that peak. Neither did the semifinals.
The Peak Came Early
Esports Charts traced the 2.89 million figure back to a quarterfinal: ONIC against Aurora Gaming. The Grand Final only managed fifth place among the tournament’s most-watched matches. ONIC or Team Falcons PH played in four of the top five.
You don’t need to dig far for the reason. Upsets tore this bracket apart. Last year’s two finalists? Gone in the Group Stage. Then look at who reached the title match. Nobody from Indonesia. Nobody from the Philippines. Nobody from Malaysia. Esports Charts treats those three as the biggest regional markets the game has. Their fans had already watched their sides pack up.
The analytics firm went one step further. It reckons a more conventional late-stage lineup could have pushed the event closer to its 2025 record.
A First-Time Champion
Don’t let that take anything away from Team Spirit. They swept Team Vamos. They swept ONIC. Then they outlasted Yangon Galacticos across seven games. Moonton confirmed the 4-3 score and flagged the bigger milestone: before this, no team from outside Southeast Asia had ever won an official international MLBB major.
Yangon Galacticos earned their place too. They knocked out PRO Esports and Team Falcons PH on the way to the final.
How the Numbers Compare
Last year‘s Mid Season Cup peaked at 3 million, so this year’s figure slipped a little. Insider Gaming went through the final Esports Charts data once the festival wrapped, and it credits the MLBB event with 45.27 million hours watched.
Nobody else got close. PUBG Mobile took second with a 1.79 million peak, and Insider Gaming notes the game hadn’t drawn that many in five years. League of Legends hit 1.48 million.
Counter-Strike 2 reached 1.04 million. Remember, the festival ran more than 20 tournaments, and just those four got past a million. Free Fire stalled at 805,000. Dota 2 lost viewers, and so did Valorant. Counter-Strike 2 did pile up 27.92 million hours watched, close to double last year’s total. Insider Gaming adds a caveat, though: the field also doubled, from 16 teams to 32.
In mid-August, Esports Charts released a recap. It had MSC 2026 down as the year’s third most popular esports event up to that point. MLBB competitions held the two spots above it as well.
The two mobile games that top that EWC list also sit side by side away from the broadcasts. Buyacc, an independent marketplace for buying and selling game accounts, carries both in its catalog, together with the strategy game Last War.
A Player Base Ten Years in the Making
Audiences this size don’t appear by magic. Moonton’s own count stands at 1.5 billion installations, with 110 million people playing every month. Oh, and the game turned 10 this month. The studio launched an anniversary campaign called ALL IN MLBB on 4 September. Its Gala Weekend opens on 25 September and lets players choose from 265 skins.
Here’s a wrinkle you may not know about. The game doesn’t use the same name everywhere. Esports.net reported in 2024 that a version with the MLBB logo on it had landed on Google Play in India under the title Moba Legends: 5v5. Vizta Games published that one. India had kicked the original app out in 2020. Why bring it up? Because third-party marketplaces run independently of the publisher, and a seller on one of them might label an established profile a Mobile Legends account or simply use the MLBB name. What Happens Next

The next test starts in days. From 29 September to 1 October, MLBB gets its first shot as an Asian Games medal event. Eleven teams enter, and the final runs best-of-seven. Some faces will look familiar if you watched the Mid Season Cup. The Yangon Galacticos core, for one, now wears Myanmar’s colors. KarlTzy and Kelra lead the Philippines. The draw put Indonesia and Malaysia in the same group.
January brings the M8 World Championship. Moonton picked Istanbul to host it. The Wild Card stage grows to 10 teams, a record, and three of those will climb into the 16-team main event. M7 peaked at 5.68 million viewers this January. M8 knows exactly what it has to beat.
