Evercade’s new Nexus handheld is already aimed at players who still appreciate physical media, but its newly announced DOOM Edition takes that idea and wraps it in enough collector packaging to make a 1990s software store display jealous. The Limited Edition Evercade Nexus DOOM Edition is now available to pre-order exclusively through Funstock. It costs $249.99, ships October 30, and is capped at 3,000 units worldwide. That price puts it $50 above the standard Nexus, but this is more than a color-swap console with a commemorative sticker doing all the work.
The Nexus DOOM Edition is packed with extras:

- Numbered certificate of authenticity

That cartridge is the real icing on the cake, though. The DOOM Collection includes the original DOOM, DOOM II, TNT: Evilution, The Plutonia Experiment, Master Levels for DOOM II, No Rest for the Living, SIGIL, and SIGIL II. There is also a dedicated DOOM: Deathmatch Pack of multiplayer maps, giving the bundle an appropriately chaotic excuse to hand a second controller to a friend.
Evercade has added a few platform-specific features as well, including widescreen support, scanline options, multiple soundtrack mixes, tailored controls, and modifiers such as Turbo Monsters, Vampire Mode, Double Monsters, and No Monsters mode. Local multiplayer modes include co-op, traditional Deathmatch, Chaosmatch, Instagib, and Tag. It is a notably substantial physical release for a franchise that has survived nearly every platform transition since floppy disks were still an exciting storage upgrade.
The Nexus itself launches alongside the cartridge on October 30. Evercade’s new handheld features a 5.3-inch screen, analog sticks for 3D titles, and EverSync wireless local multiplayer support. And for players who only want the games, The DOOM Collection cartridge will also be sold separately for $29.99 and works across compatible Evercade hardware and HyperMegaTech! Super Pocket devices.
