Fable Delayed to 2026 to "Make the Best Game Possible"

Xbox Studios lead Crag Duncan has announced that the Fable reboot everyone’s been waiting for has been delayed. The game was originally supposed to arrive in 2025 but has now been pursued back to 2026. Despite the delay and players’ disappointment, Duncan claims that it “will be worth the wait.”

A new episode of the Xbox Podcast has surfaced, in which Duncan takes the stage for part of the event. He offers a look at the game’s current state and discusses why it has been delayed.  Aside from the delay announcement, Duncan most notably says, “What they’re bringing to Fable as a franchise, just think of the visuals of what you expect of Playground Games, plus amazing game play, British humor, Playground’s version of Albion, so inspired by what’s gone before with the franchise, but their take. And quite frankly, it’s the most beautifully realized version of Albion you’ve ever seen.”

Viewers will also get a peek at about a minute’s worth of pre-alpha gameplay footage that includes a smattering of combat, a peek at a city, a snippet of the main character riding a horse, and, of course, kicking a chicken. It wouldn’t be Fable otherwise, right?

Fable was first announced in 2020 and heralded as a fresh start for the popular franchise. While details are short about what the game features are, there have been a scant few videos released, including the 2020 announcement trailer, a 2023 video at the Xbox Game Showcase, and last year’s Xbox Showcase trailer this past June.

We’ll keep you posted as we learn more. In the meantime, head to the Fable official site for more.
