Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake Launches Today

KOEI TECMO and Team NINJA are celebrating the launch of the survival horror Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake. The game brings back the second part of the acclaimed Fatal Frame (Project Zero) series. For this occasion, the team released a brand-new trailer, featuring the fights and fears of the forgotten village. Earlier this month, the developers presented a playable Demo for everyone to have a taste of a Japanese-style horror.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is a full remake of the original game, which reimagines many old elements. The story still follows the twin sisters, lost in the abandoned village haunted by spirits. To survive, they have to use Camera Obscura – the only item that can seal away the vengeful ghosts, but it can’t protect them from greater evil. The remake brings the classic horror to a new level, improving everything from the graphics to the core gameplay features. The new additions promise to provide a better experience, including a deeper narrative engagement through the game mechanics.

Key Remake Changes

  • Beautifully Remade: Graphics, sound, and controls rebuilt from the zero. Character textures (skin, clothing) are refined with great detail. Minakami Village recreated with emphasis on light and shadow for a dark, ominous atmosphere.
  • Immersive Audio: 3D sound enhances the presence of spirits, creating a more vivid and chilling exploration experience.
  • Expanded Content: New side stories and areas added for deeper immersion in the game’s world.
  • Enhanced Camera Obscura: New features include Focus, Zoom, and Filter Switching. Filters offer unique combat and exploration functionalities for adapting to spirits and uncovering village mysteries.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
