Final Fantasy VII — Re-Release on Steam

Square Enix has announced a re-release of the classic JRPG Final Fantasy VII. The studio promises improved game experience, while not sharing more details about the project. The current Steam version will receive a name Final Fantasy VII– 2013 Edition, and remain available for the players. Moreover, the owners of the 2013 version will receive the re-released version for free.

Original Final Fantasy VII (1997) is a landmark PlayStation RPG. The story follows Cloud Strife, a mercenary who joins the eco-terrorist group Avalanche to fight the planet-draining Shinra Corporation. The conflict escalates and Cloud has to lead his allies to the battle against superhuman Sephiroth who seeks godhood by harming the planet.

With the launch of the new version, FINAL FANTASY VII – 2013 Edition will be delisted and no longer available for purchase on Steam.

Access for Existing Owners:

  • All current owners of the 2013 Edition will receive the new version at no additional cost.
  • Both the 2013 Edition and the new version will remain accessible in the owner’s Steam library.

Save Data Compatibility:

  • Save data is not compatible between the two versions.
  • Saves from the 2013 Edition will only function with that version.
  • Saves from the new version will only function with the new version.
