God of War is Celebrating 20 Years of Adventures

Kratos’ adventure began 20 years ago when the original God of War launched on PlayStation 2. Two decades, multiple pantheons, new platforms later, the game has millions of fans around the world who eagerly await the next chapter of this story.

The developers have shared a thank-you video, in which the team from Santa Monica Studio expresses their gratitude to the audience that had supported the God of War franchise and helped shape it into its current iteration.

“This video is a thank you from Santa Monica Studio to all of you. Across two decades, your passion, creativity, and support have shaped God of War into something we never could’ve imagined. You’ve inspired us, challenged us, and reminded us why we love what we do. From all of us at the studio, thank you for 20 years and here is to 20 more!”

About God of War: Ragnarok

The events of the game take place three years after those of its predecessor. Fembulwinter, the apocalyptic great winter spanning three years, is well underway which means the arrival of Ragnarök – the upcoming demise of the Norse gods and the world alike. Kratos and Atreus must journey to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers as Asgardian forces prepare for a prophesied battle that will end the world.

Witness the changing dynamic of their relationship as they prepare for war; Atreus hungers for knowledge to help him grasp the prophecy of “Loki”, as Kratos struggles to free himself from the past and be the father his son needs. All the while, the eyes of Asgard watch their every move…
