Govee Expands Outdoor Lineup With Smart Solar String Lights

Outdoor lighting has always had a bit of a tradeoff. You either run cables everywhere or settle for solar lights that do the bare minimum and call it a day. Govee is aiming to close that gap with its first-ever Outdoor Solar String Lights, a product that brings its usual app-driven, RGB-heavy approach to a category that hasn’t changed in years.

Announced today, the new string lights lean heavily on Govee’s LuminBlend technology, which is essentially its in-house color system designed to smooth out transitions and improve accuracy. The company is claiming up to 281 trillion color combinations, which sounds excessive until you remember how often outdoor lights end up stuck on a single washed-out hue. More importantly, the system supports both vibrant RGB effects and a softer white lighting mode, so it can shift from everyday patio lighting to something more festive without swapping setups.

The bigger shift here is power. Instead of treating solar as a compromise, Govee is pushing it as a primary feature. The lights use a 6W solar panel paired with a 4800mAh battery, which is rated for up to 13 hours of runtime on a full charge. That panel is also designed to charge faster than standard setups, and there is a USB-C backup option for days when the weather refuses to cooperate.

Durability is clearly part of the pitch. Both the lights and the solar panel carry an IP67 rating, meaning they are built to handle heavy rain, dust, and general outdoor wear without much fuss. Govee is also using higher-grade materials to prevent the yellowing and brittleness that tends to show up after a season or two in direct sunlight.

Like most of Govee’s lineup, the smart features do much of the heavy lifting. Through the app, users can access more than 100 preset lighting modes, sync effects to music, and monitor battery levels in real time. There is also automatic day and night detection, which adjusts activation timing based on ambient light instead of a fixed schedule.

Brightness has also been bumped up, with each bulb capable of hitting 50 lumens, which is noticeably stronger than typical solar string lights. With flexible mounting options and a detachable panel, the system is designed to work in spaces that do not always receive perfect sunlight.

The Govee Outdoor Solar String Lights are available now for $99.99 through the Govee site and Amazon. It is a relatively accessible price for something that feels like a step toward making solar lighting less of a compromise and more of a default choice.
