Wildlight Entertainment has announced that they made a tough decision to permanently shut down Highguard servers. Despite the two million players milestone, according to developers, the free-to-play shooter didn’t manage to build a proper fan base. The team came to the conclusion that the game won’t manage to survive in long term run. In the end they decided to shut it down instead of trying to change anything.
As a final gift to the loyal players, the developers prepared a final update for the game, adding a new Warden, a new weapon, account level progression, and skill trees. Patch notes will be available tonight, with more details about the game changes. However, the servers shut down on 12 March, and the time to enjoy the update is limited.
“We hope you’ll jump in with us one more time to show your support and get those final great matches in while we still can. From all of us at Wildlight, thank you for playing, for supporting us, and for being part of Highguard’s story.” – Wildlight Entertainment Team.
Highguard launched on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X at the end of January. However, since its announcement at The Game Awards, the game has faced ongoing criticism from players. Its Steam rating has remained in the “mixed” category, showing no signs of improvement.
