Hyper Light Breaker Buried Below Update Could Be Game Changing

The Hyper Light Breaker Buried Below update lands today, bringing the first major Early Access changes to this title.

Arc Games pressed play on the first major update for roguelike adventure Hyper Light Breaker. Arriving today across PC, this sizeable update brings a slew of changes to Breakers, from gameplay tweaks to new improvements, and a brand new boss to battle.
Since launching into Early Acces earlier this year, Hyper Light Breaker has had mixed feedback. Thankfully that’s the point of Early Access, and developer Heart Machine has put together a huge update that introduces a new Breaker, Rondo. Coming from the same region as the recently debuted Breaker, Ravona, they include a shiny new SyCom with two perks. There’s also a big bad new Crown. The Maw is the biggest and most menacing Crown yet, so you’ll need some help taking them down. That comes in the form of two new melee weapons, strewn around a new environment in the Overgrowth.

Players dropping into the updated game will also find a reworked gameplay loop. The new run structure gives players one life for each run. Death now incurs loss of inventory items and the Overgrowth resets. The intent seems to be to give Breakers a more roguelike experience, rather than just add a different game mode. The change also brings new ways to play, with the following changes intended to make the overall run a little less punishing:

Extraction

Instead of only one way to leave the Overgrowth (via the Telepad), players are able to extract at any Shrine in the Overgrowth and there are no waves of enemies to defeat like before.

SyComs

Now, expect new character customization, redesigned giving each Breaker one assigned SyCom with fixed stats, and players have the option to equip a perk to the SyCom that gives the Breaker a new passive ability.

Inventory & Vendors

It is now more streamlined. The inventory in your Vault will no longer carry over between runs except for Golden Rations, the main meta-progression currency in the game. This allows players to focus solely on acquiring new gear during their runs instead of having to focus on managing their inventory so often.

With tons of other quality-of-life changes, a new tutorial system, and more, this is a massive set of changes. Head over to the official Steam update to find out more or take a look at the teaser trailer for the Hyper Light Breaker Buried Below update above.
