Square Enix has announced an open beta test for the upcoming action detective Killer Inn. The test will be completely free and open to everyone via Steam. However, access will be time-limited, running from February 7 to February 10. This OBT seems to serve as a teaser, as the game’s Early Access release is scheduled for February 12.
Killer Inn is an asymmetrical murder mystery action game for up to 24 players. Participants get roles of wolves or lambs in a one-night game of deception and survival. Wolves must kill the lambs, while lambs must neutralize all wolves or escape the death trap. Through the night players should investigate crime scenes to gather physical clues and identify the killers, moving beyond simple accusation to deduction. However, it’s not just a detective. To survive, the players must be ready to fight for their lives using traps, weapons and random items.
Key Game Features
- Focus Mode: A detective-view ability that highlights killer footprints, sound through walls, and environmental evidence.
- Immersive 3D Voice Chat: Proximity-based Voice chat, where distance, rooms, and closed doors affect the sound. Non-verbal communication is available via emotes and stamps.
- Character Roles: Characters have special abilities that define play styles and strategies.
- Flexible Team Play: Solo, or pre-made duos, trios, or squads. Squad voice chat remains active regardless of in-game distance.
- Environmental Interaction: An area filled with interactive items, allowing diverse approaches to murder or survival.
