Netflix and CD Projekt Red are heading back to Night City. The first full trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 has dropped, confirming a Fall 2026 release window and giving us a proper look at the anime’s new crew of mercs trying, and probably failing, to carve out a future in the worst city on Earth.
If you are still emotionally wrecked from Season 1, good news, or bad news depending on your outlook, this is not a direct continuation. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 is a standalone 10‑episode story set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, with a fresh cast rather than a resurrection tour. The trailer tells that right away, mixing wide shots of familiar Night City districts with quick cuts of new edgerunners, chrome, and cyberpsychos. The tagline running through Netflix’s marketing is basically “in a city obsessed with spectacle, how far do you have to go to make your story matter,” so do not expect things to get any less bleak this time around.
Studio Trigger is still handling animation, which means the same sharp linework and explosive action that made the original such a standout. There are new faces on the creative side though. Director Kai Ikarashi, who worked on the first Edgerunners and SSSS.Gridman, is taking the helm, with Bartosz Sztybor back as showrunner and lead writer. The teaser hangs a lot on that combination, pairing Trigger’s hyperkinetic cuts with a new original track, “You Can’t Run From Me” featuring Rico Nasty, to sell a story that looks even more angry and chaotic than the first run.
Lore‑wise, the trailer is light on specifics, which is probably for the best. You get flashes of corpos, Maelstrom‑style gangers, braindance rigs, and what looks like a high‑profile gig gone sideways, but there is no obvious tie‑in to David and Lucy’s story beyond the shared city. That lines up with what CDPR has been saying for a while, Edgerunners 2 is meant to be another angle on Night City, not a clean “season two” in the TV sense.
For players, this is also another excuse to reinstall Cyberpunk 2077 or dive back into Phantom Liberty before the show hits. The first Edgerunners season famously sent player numbers through the roof and pushed a bunch of in‑game crossovers. It would be surprising if CDPR did not have at least a few new quests, cosmetics, or references planned to land alongside the Fall 2026 premiere.
For now, the important details are simple. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 hits Netflix worldwide this Fall, it brings a new crew to Night City under the same studio that nailed the first season, and if the trailer is anything to go by, nobody is getting a happy ending this time either.
