The Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo is not the new hardware you expected.
Hang on a second, there’s a new Nintendo hardware announcement and it’s not the Switch 2! The Japanese gaming giant and Switch manufacturer just announced the Alarmo, an internet connected clock. The upcoming home accessory, good for gamers and sleepy plumbers, is already sitting on warehouse shelves and ready to purchase for just $99.99 or local equivalent.
The Alarmo isn’t just your average clock, its internet connected. Anybody willing to part with their cash will find alarm tones inspired by five Nintendo games. Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon III, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Pikmin 4, and Ring Fit Adventure all appear. More will come along via ongoing updates, although there is no timeline for these as yet.
Where the Alarmo attempts to justify its hefty coin exchange is the interactive elements of the alarm. A motion sensor allows the device to respond to your movement, playing calming sounds from the same themes as you head to bed. Alternatively, it might pester sleepy heads with coins noises from Mario Odyssey until they get up in the morning. It also includes movement tracking and other add-ons like hourly chimes.
As nice as the idea of a Nintendo clock is, this is a bit of a leftfield choice with the Nintendo Switch 2 hype in full swing. Still if you’re a Nintendo fan this might seem like a cool addition to your home. If you do want to grab it, the Alarmo is available to paid Nintendo Switch Online members in the United States and Canada before it goes live to the general public. Make sure to keep that subscription on too. The store notes a “Nintendo Switch Online required” on the product page. Me, I’m going to look for something else that can tell the time, track my sleep, and set a customizable alarm that might already be nearby. Find out more on the Nintendo Store now.
