With pre-orders now open for the long-awaited Octopath Traveler 0, Square Enix has delivered expected but disappointing news. The publisher confirmed that the game will not support version upgrades—players who purchase the Nintendo Switch edition (physical or digital) cannot transfer it to the Switch 2. Even a paid upgrade option will be unavailable.
Adding to the frustration, the Switch 2 physical edition will ship as a Game Key card rather than a traditional cartridge—a letdown for collectors who prefer to own physical copies of the games.
Octopath Traveler 0 is the third game in the Octopath series, developed and published by Square Enix. Serving as a prequel to the original Octopath Traveler, the game explores the untold history of the Orsterra realm. Staying true to the franchise’s roots, Octopath Traveler 0 retains the signature HD-2D art style and core gameplay mechanics, while introducing new features never before seen in the series.
