At the Gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live, Capcom presented a brand-new gameplay trailer for the upcoming action-adventure Onimusha: Way of the Sword. This marks the first new Onimusha game in over 20 years. A reimagining of the franchise’s origins, it likely won’t maintain strong ties to previous titles. This adventure will become a perfect entry point for new players, while offering longtime fans a fresh take on the beloved series.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword invites players to historic Edo-era Kyoto, a capital corrupted by malevolent clouds of Malice. You play as Miyamoto Musashi, a warrior striving to prove himself the unmatched swordsman. But his journey takes an unexpected turn when he faces monstrosities from the underworld. Armed with a mythical artifact, Musashi battles through gritty, blood-soaked brawls and searches for reasons to keep fighting.
The game promises to stay loyal to its roots, staying an action packed adventure with no sign of open world. The players well explore different linear locations, facing new enemies and challenges on each one of them. Moreover, Way of the Sword will the longest game on the longest game of the Onimusha series, offering about 20 hours of gameplay.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword comes to PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series in 2026. Meanwhile, visitors of the Gamescom can play the demo version of the game on the Capcom stand.
