Desktop audio has always been a bit of a compromise. You either stack speakers like a tiny home theater or settle for something that sounds “good enough” while you chase frames. OXS is aiming to shake that middle ground with the launch of its new Thunder Duo lineup, a system that tries to cram full Dolby Atmos immersion into a desk-friendly footprint.
Officially announced following a successful Kickstarter run and appearances at IFA and Gamescom 2025, the Thunder Duo and its beefier sibling, the Thunder Duo X, are positioned as studio-grade gaming speakers with a focus on true spatial audio rather than virtual tricks. The headline feature is a 5.1.2-channel setup that uses upward-firing “sky” channels to bounce sound and simulate overhead effects. It is the kind of feature usually reserved for living room setups that require more wiring than most people are willing to tolerate.
The base Thunder Duo runs a 3.1.2 configuration with 110W RMS output, which OXS claims is enough to fill rooms up to 220 square feet. It leans on alloy magnet drivers, dual DSP processing, and tuned bass ports to keep distortion under 0.5%, a figure that puts it closer to studio monitors than typical gaming speakers. In practice, that means cleaner separation between the important stuff like footsteps and gunfire, along with enough range to handle cinematic soundtracks without turning into mush.
The Thunder Duo X takes things further by delivering a full 5.1.2 system by adding a wireless headrest speaker that acts as a rear channel. It is a slightly unusual approach, but it solves one of surround sound’s oldest problems. Rear audio tends to disappear the moment you shift position. Here, it follows you.
Connectivity is broad and modern, with HDMI 2.1 (eARC, 4K@120Hz), USB-C, Bluetooth 5.3, and optical support covering everything from consoles to handhelds and PCs. Swapping inputs does not require cable gymnastics, which is always appreciated. There are also preset audio modes and a customizable EQ through the companion app.
Of course, this is still a gaming product, so RGB lighting makes an appearance. The Thunder Duo features multi-zone lighting effects with names like Turbo and Lightning, wrapped in a design that looks like it belongs on a small spacecraft.
Pricing lands at $449.99 for the Thunder Duo and $549.99 for the Thunder Duo X. It is not exactly entry-level, but for anyone looking to bring Atmos to a desk without remodeling their ceiling, OXS is betting that convenience might be the real killer feature.
