Second Face Software has announced that its Portal 2 mod, Portal 2: Revolution, is now available for PC via Steam. The highly anticipated mod has been in Valve’s review queue since December, which pushed the mod’s release to January 5, 2024. However, it didn’t make it out the gate on that date but managed to the day after. Regardless, the mod is off to a great start with over 2,000 “very positive” player reviews.
Those interested in playing the mod can download it for free. However, remember that the base game is required to use and play the mod. When launched, players face a new story, tougher puzzles, forty new and challenging test chambers with all-new mechanics, and over eight hours of gameplay.
Features include
- Over 40 New Puzzles: The campaign contains 40 brand new puzzles making use of new test elements and presents existing mechanics in a new way not seen in Portal 2.
- More Challenging Puzzles: Portal: Revolutions puzzle difficulty starts where Portal 2 stops, but fear not. All new mechanics and advanced portal tricks are taught to you.
- An All-New Story: Set inbetween Portal and Portal 2, Portal: Revolution tells a brand new story using new characters. You play as a test subject who is awoken by a personality sphere called Stirling and join his mission to find a powerful device capable of restoring Aperture to its former glory.
- A Modified Game Engine: Portal: Revolution uses a modified version of Portal 2: Community Edition’s engine, which is a custom version of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Source Engine branch using licensed source code provided by Valve Software.
