Relu Games has just launched Magical Mic Duel: Senpai, Hear my Spell into Early Access, bringing an unorthodox blend of Senshi sim and microphone action to life.
Krafton subsidiary Relu Games dropped a rather oddball approach to the Sailor Senshi genre today. Magical Mic Duel: Senpai, Hear my Spell is available now in Early Acces, over on Steam, and brings together Otaku culture, visual novels, online battles, and your very own voice for a game I couldn’t exactly ignore.
Fans of the ubiquitous Sailor Moon and pretty much any other Shonen series will be familiar with the main character’s transformation, but the team behind this unique take introduced the powerful transformations into a 2024 Seoul, where the declining birth rate has led to a shortage of magical girls. The result, middle middle-aged men become magical girls. Escape the monotony of another evening commute and fight evil by the pojungmacha. The whole thing gets even more bizarre still.
While navigating a visual novel and defeating your cartoon strip enemies, players will magically duel with friends or foes. Grab a microphone and scream your spell into the game to power a unique transformation, or at least that’s the premise. Challenge your competition to piece together a powerful punchline with a unique onword battle.
Relu games do use AI in bringing together this title. The blurb for the incoming adventure tells us that the systems allow players to use their voices to cast spells, duel opponents, and interact with the game world, with AI interpreting their vocal inputs and emotional tones. I’m still reeling from the trailer, and can’t wait to add this to my list of most unexpected adventures here on Gamespace. Fight evil by moonlight and find out more about Magical Mic Duel: Senpai, Hear my Spell over on Steam now.
