SEGA is bringing its Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe pop-up to St. Louis, with doors opening on April 25. The traveling, game-themed dining experience will temporarily take over Nudo House on the Delmar Loop, marking the cafe’s first stop in Missouri.
Created in collaboration with restaurateur Andy Nguyen, the Speed Cafe blends fast-casual dining with a heavy dose of Sonic nostalgia. The space itself is designed to feel pulled straight from the franchise, with custom decor and character-themed presentation throughout.
The menu is filled with both familiar Sonic staples and local St. Louis flavor. Returning items include Sonic’s Chili Dog, the Knuckles Fried Chicken Sandwich, and Power-Up Onion Rings, alongside drinks like the Sonic Boom Lemonade and Chaos Emerald Refresher. Each order comes in custom packaging unique to the St. Louis stop, which is a nice touch if you’re the type who hesitates to throw away anything with a blue hedgehog on it.
Where things get more interesting is the Delmar Loop-exclusive menu, developed by Marie-Anne Velasco and Qui Tran. The lineup includes the Arch City Hot Dog, which piles pulled pork and barbecue sauce onto a classic all-beef dog, and E-123 Omega’s Red Hot Revenge, a fried chicken sandwich coated in St. Louis’ signature Red Hot Riplets seasoning. Other additions include Gouda mac and cheese bites, corn ribs with gochujang mayo, and a colorful take on the city’s well-known crab rangoons.
Beyond the food, the pop-up will also offer exclusive St. Louis-themed merchandise, including t-shirts, hats, mugs, and hoodies, only available at this location.
The Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe first launched in San Diego in 2023 and has since made stops across California, Texas, Georgia, and Illinois, often drawing long lines from both fans and the just-plain-curious. The St. Louis run continues that trend, swapping chili dogs and collectibles into one of the city’s more recognizable food corridors for a limited time.
I’m a St. Louis local, so it’ll be a rare chance to see the Delmar Loop temporarily traded in for Green Hill Zone energy, even if just long enough to grab a themed hot dog and debate whether Sonic would actually slow down long enough to eat one.
