While Warframe’s journey to the Tau System grabbed plenty of headlines at TennoCon 2026, Digital Extremes also used the event to showcase the growing ambitions of Soulframe. The upcoming free-to-play fantasy action RPG received one of its most substantial updates yet, introducing a darker player progression path, a major new antagonist, a fresh boss encounter, fishing, and long-awaited mounts. Perhaps the biggest announcement for prospective players was that Soulframe Preludes access is temporarily open to everyone. Anyone who created an account on the official website before the July 12 deadline secured permanent access to the game’s current testing phase, allowing them to explore Alca ahead of the game’s eventual public launch.
The centerpiece of the presentation was a preview of Warsongs, a new Fable questline scheduled to arrive later this fall. Unlike previous content that has largely focused on themes of restoration and healing, Warsongs explores a darker side of Soulframe’s world through a corruption-based progression system known as the Vadagar Pact. Players who embrace the corrupting influence of Ichor will gain access to a new suite of abilities, including explosive boomerang attacks, ensnaring tendrils, and the ability to summon a stampede of corrosive spectral steeds. The system represents one of the clearest indications yet that Soulframe is willing to explore moral gray areas rather than positioning players as straightforward heroes.
That darker tone is reinforced through the introduction of Tempest Bayor, one of the game’s primary antagonists. Brought to life by actor Ben Starr, best known to many RPG fans for his recent breakout performances, Bayor is a rare red-armed Envoy who has aligned himself with the invading Ode forces. Accompanied by a raven companion and shrouded in mystery, Bayor appears poised to become one of Soulframe’s central rivals. Players also received a first look at Jennifer English’s portrayal of the Empress of Eldveil, hinting at larger political and narrative conflicts that will shape the world of Alca.
Beyond story content, Digital Extremes showcased several gameplay additions aimed at expanding the game’s world. A new boss encounter, the Mendicant Reinbreaker, is available now in Preludes. The mounted enemy presents a formidable challenge, and defeating him may eventually provide players with an opportunity to befriend his steed.
The studio also revealed a surprisingly cozy addition in the form of fishing. Integrated directly into the game’s lore and worldbuilding, the activity allows players to spend time with Grandfather Doyen while gathering resources and learning more about Alca’s inhabitants.
Finally, Digital Extremes confirmed that one of the community’s most requested features is on the way. Mounts are scheduled to arrive in Soulframe Preludes later this year, allowing players to traverse the fantasy world atop full-grown wolf companions. The feature has been a frequent topic of discussion among early testers and represents another step toward making Alca feel like a fully realized open world.
Soulframe remains without a full release date, but each major showcase continues to reveal a clearer identity. Where Warframe thrives on speed, spectacle, and sci-fi chaos, Soulframe appears to be embracing a slower, more atmospheric journey centered on exploration, redemption, and the difficult choices that come with both. If TennoCon 2026 proved anything, it’s that Digital Extremes isn’t simply building a fantasy version of Warframe. It’s building something entirely its own.
