The World of Tanks team turns its hand to big stompy robots for a free to play Steel Hunters Beta Playtest, starting today!

Chrome plated action kicks off today as Wargaming begin a Beta Playtest for robotic adventure Steel Hunters. Dropping onto Steam as part of the Wargaming Publisher Weekend, this new entry in tan explosive takes the World of Tanks vehicular activity in a whole new direction. From 20 – 24 February 2025, players will be able to get in the freakin robot and stomp out into the battlefield for free.

Pilots suiting up for something a little more intense than Next Fests array of cute indie experiences will find themselves wrapped in chrome and wielding the latest fictional weaponry. Giant humanoid forms, robotic big cats, and tracked demons dominate a range of scarred backdrops where it’s not just the local NPCs that want you dead. Fight through a series of PvPvE encounters to secure your own extraction from danger. Use a range of mods, weapons, abilities, and gear to customize confuse your opponents. Big robots, lasers, missiles power swords, and huge miniguns. What’s not to love.

Fight Big, Win Big

While playing the latest build and the newest content from the comfort of your own command capsule is enough to tempt plenty of us into the fight, Wargaming has also put some prizes on the line. The Clutch Performance event will run alongside the playtest, and there’s loot. The top 10 players on the daily leaderboard will win Steam gift cards and exclusive physical merchandise, while all players will have the opportunity to compete for a unique permanent Trenchwalker skin.
