Steam Gifting Changes Gifting System

Steam Gifting Changes Gifting System

Valve has introduced several improvements to the Steam gifting experience, making it easier to send games and digital gift cards to friends and family. The new system changes the region restriction wall, wishlist filters and much more. Guest checkout now expanded beyond gift cards, allowing to send any games on Steam to users by email.

Main Changes Overview

  • Guest Checkout for Games: Previously limited to digital gift cards and hardware, guest checkout now allows users to purchase any game on Steam without creating an account.
  • Wishlist Sharing: Users can send a wishlist share link to friends or family. Recipients can purchase gifts directly from the list without a Steam account.
  • Cross-Region Gifting: Gifts can now be sent directly to friends in higher-priced regions. Steam calculates the cost in the recipient’s region at checkout. The recipient must be on the purchaser’s Steam friends list.

Gift to Email:

  • Digital gift cards and games can be sent directly to email addresses, even if the recipient is not known by their Steam username.
  • Surprise Gifts: Guests can send gifts as a surprise to any email address.
  • 30-Day Acceptance Window: 30 days to accept the gift before automatic refund.
  • Country Restriction: Recipients must reside in the same country as the purchaser.
  • No Scheduling: No option to schedule a future delivery.
