SteelSeries Adds Limited-Edition Apex Pro Gen 3 Keyboards To Its 25th Anniversary Lineup

SteelSeries is celebrating 25 years in the gaming peripheral business with a couple of new keyboards, and these are aimed squarely at players who would rather tune their keyboard than simply plug it in and start gaming. The new Apex Pro Gen 3 LTD Series adds two limited-edition models, the Apex Pro Gen 3 Cyber and Apex Pro Gen 3 Steel. Both are built around SteelSeries’ OmniPoint 3.0 technology and its Triple Threat Tech, which combines Rapid Trigger, Protection Mode, and Rapid Tap.

These new colorways keep all of the tech that makes the Apex Pro Gen 3 the fastest keyboard around. Along with SteelSerie’s  Hall Effect Gen 3 sensors, the keyboards offer OmniPoint 3.0 switch options with different spring actuation weights, giving players a choice between Speed and Control.  For competitive games, that flexibility can be game changing. Rapid Trigger can adjust how quickly a key responds to repeated inputs, while per-key actuation allows players to configure individual keys to their preferred activation point. Protection Mode can also help prevent accidental inputs by changing the behavior of neighboring keys.

SteelSeries is also putting considerable emphasis on the software side. The Apex Pro Gen 3 lineup uses GG QuickSet, which is designed to make features such as Rapid Trigger, Rapid Tap, Protection Mode, and per-key actuation easier to configure. Settings can be optimized for individual game profiles, allowing players to pull up game-specific presets at the click of a button, or go the extra mile by fine tuning their configuartion on a per-key level.

The Apex Pro Gen 3 Cyber and Steel are available starting September 22 from SteelSeries and select retailers. Both carry an MSRP of $239.99 in North America, £239.99 in the UK, and €249.99 in the EU.

Old enough to have played retro games when they were still cutting edge, Mitch has been a gamer since the 70s. As his game-fu fades (did he ever really have any?), it is replaced with ever-stronger, and stranger, opinions. If that isn't the perfect recipe for a game reviewer, what is?
