Stern Pinball is officially preparing to roll out its next major licensed machine, and based on the first teaser trailer, the company clearly understands exactly which generation it is targeting. The newly released teaser for the upcoming Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye pinball machine leans fully into classic 1980s Transformers cartoon energy, complete with retro anime-inspired visuals, dramatic lighting, and enough nostalgia to make longtime fans immediately start hearing Stan Bush music in their heads whether they want to or not.
The full reveal is scheduled for May 20, but the teaser already confirms the machine will arrive in the now-standard trio of Pro, Premium, and Limited Edition models. That setup has become Stern’s go-to strategy for major releases. The Pro version typically offers the core gameplay package at a lower price point, while Premium editions add expanded toys, animations, and mechanical features. The Limited Edition machines usually go completely overboard with exclusive artwork, numbered production runs, upgraded trim, and enough collector appeal to make wallets quietly nervous from across the room.
While Stern has not officially detailed gameplay mechanics yet, the teaser strongly suggests the machine will focus heavily on the original Generation 1 era of Transformers rather than the modern live-action films. For a lot of pinball fans, that is probably the smartest possible direction. Classic Transformers already feels weirdly perfect for pinball. Giant robots, bright colors, over-the-top battles, transformation gimmicks, and iconic sound effects practically beg for ramps, multiballs, and mechanical toys flying around inside a cabinet.
The retro animation style also helps the reveal stand out in a market where nostalgia has become increasingly valuable currency. Players who grew up during the arcade and Saturday morning cartoon boom of the 1980s are now the same audience buying high-end collectible pinball machines for game rooms and home arcades. Honestly, Stern could probably sell half these machines based purely on hearing the Transformers transformation sound effect during multiball mode. The rest is just bonus points.
