Stranger Than Heaven — Check Out the Story Reveal Trailer

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Microsoft have presented a story and cast reveal trailer for the upcoming action Stranger Than Heaven. During the special showcase, the developers announced the release window and demonstrated some gameplay. The game prepares to launch this winter on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, including Game Pass.

The events of Stranger Than Heaven take place in the universe of the famous Yakuza universe, decades before Kiryu’s story. The main character of the game is Makoto Daito, a man born to an American father and a Japanese mother. Back in America, he faced heave pressure from the society due to his origins. After losing both his parents, he decided to travel back to his mother’s birthplace in Japan.

His voyage across the Pacific turns into a true challenge, and this single choice changes the course of his life.

The story unfolds across a version of Japan spanning five decades:

  • 1915, Kokura, Fukuoka: Home to one of the world’s largest foundries. A smoke-scorched town of hard-driven, fiery workers.
  • 1929, Kure, Hiroshima: A port town dominated by Japan’s largest naval arsenal, heavily influenced by yakuza organizations.
  • 1943, Minami, Osaka: The largest entertainment district in western Japan, set against the rising tension of a world at war.
  • 1951, Atami, Shizuoka: A bustling seaside getaway synonymous with tourism in postwar Japan.
  • 1965, Shinjuku, Tokyo: Japan’s most iconic pleasure district—a city of swirling and unpredictable chaos.

Stranger Than Heaven – Key Game Features

  • Dual-Limb Combat System: Players control Makoto’s left and right sides independently. Combat options include blocking, countering, and using weapons such as knives, hammers, and katanas.
  • Showman Mechanic: Players scout performers, collect environmental sounds, compose original music, and design stage productions including setlists and staging.
  • Historical Narrative: Follows Makoto’s fifty-year journey from a stowaway to a showman, set against real historical backdrops.
  • Developer: From RGG Studio, known for the Yakuza and Like a Dragon series.
