Recently, developers from the Cyanide Studio held a Q&A session regarding the upcoming stealth action Styx: Blades of Greed. They shared many details about the work process, gameplay, and narrative. All questions came from a pool submitted by players. However, the developers noted, that they couldn’t share everything, since it could bring unwanted spoiler or ruin the surprises they prepared.
Styx: Blades of Greed – Developer Q&A Summary
Development and Workflow. The development began in early 2021 with a prototyping phase. At first the developers focused on the movements, abilities and open environment. The team avoided crunches, adjusting the project scope to meet the deadlines and stay on track.
Gameplay and Mechanics. Adding new tools like grappling hook and glider, the team wanted to provide more freedom for the players. These mechanics provide more creative stealth opportunities. The team designed the vertical levels specifically for these new movement abilities, to let them shine. Moreover, the developers deliberately returned to a single-player focus for a more immersive experience. However, they removed the comedic death screens from the game, which will likely disappoint many players
Narrative and Writing. All narrative content, dialogues and assets were made without generative AI. Everything in the game is original and handcrafted. The story picks up immediately after the end of the Shards of Darkness plot cliffhanger. Moreover, the game serves as a link between Shards of Darkness and Of Orcs and Men. It explores Styx’s character, his growth and the start of the Great War.
Content and Release. The release was postponed to implement players’ feedback into the game. The team focused on polishing gameplay, lighting and optimization. The game takes approximately 20 hours for standard play through and more for completionists. Moreover, the team noted that physical PC edition will not be released due to low market relevance.
Styx: Blades of Greed comes to PC and consoles on 19 February 2026.
