Coming from independent studio Howling Hamster Entertainment, Sub-Species is a 2.5D multidirectional alien sci-fi shooter. The events of the game are set deep beneath Earth’s oceans after a devastating alien outbreak. Check out the trailer above to catch a first look at the game’s mysterious deep-sea world!
In Sub-Species, you control a submarine that rotates 360° in order to battle alien sea monsters that will be coming at you from all angles. Explore contaminated zones, outmaneuver and fight against the aggressive alien lifeforms across 12 levels in 4 environments. Search for weapons and lost experimental technology, unveil secrets and mysteries, and keep your submarine safe.
The developers revealed drawing from influences such as Sub-Terrania, Ecco the Dolphin, The Abyss and The Blue Planet. To that effect, Sub-Species combines retro-inspired precision with a modern, cinematic underwater atmosphere.
“The deep ocean is the closest thing we have to an alien world on Earth,” said Creative Director Manus Burke. “We wanted players to feel that tension, the beauty that pulls you in, and the fear that reminds you you’re not supposed to be there.”
