Unknown Worlds Entertainment has enabled pre-purchase and pre-load for Subnautica 2 on Steam, 72 hours ahead of the Early Access launch. Players who wish to begin playing immediately upon release can now prepare in advance. The new underwater adventure starts on May 14, 2026, on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X/S. Moreover, the game will be available on day one via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Subnautica 2 is an underwater survival adventure game set on a new alien world. The game opens a new chapter in the Subnautica universe. The story follows Alterra, a wanderer driven away from home by the ongoing conflict. The colony ship CICADA carries Pioneers to their destination, but the travel doesn’t go smoothly. Stranded and facing near-insurmountable odds, players must survive. The future of humanity on this world is in their hands.
Key Game Features
- Solo or Co-Op: Single-player experience with optional online co-op for up to three players. Four pre-designed characters available at launch, with more coming during Early Access.
- Adaptive Survival: Players can explore biomes with the Tadpole submersible, design and customize bases. Tools, equipment, and vehicles expand throughout Early Access, unlocking deeper exploration.
- Exploration: Players can scan and study diverse aquatic life, from small creatures to towering leviathans. Each discovery uncovers new mysteries beneath the surface and the ship AI’s true purpose.
- Early Access Development: The world will expand with additional biomes, creatures, craftables, and narrative content. Players may encounter bugs, incomplete features, and performance issues. Community feedback shapes development.
