Mighty Koi Studio has announced that we’re getting a Thorgal video game, adapting a classic fantasy comic book for PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation.
The Witcher might be Poland’s big budget fantasy export, with the original book spawning an iconic video game, digital cross overs, internet memery, and a Netflix show. Mighty Koi Studio is out to broaden the country’s cultural influence a bit further with the news that Thorgal is about to step into modern video game territory. Based on a comic that first published in 1977, this news is set to deliver a Norse themed fantasy adventure to front rooms.
Mighty Koi dropped a trailer for the upcoming adventure, and while it doesn’t give us much detail, it sets a dark precedent for what’s to come. Playing as the legendary Viking warrior, Thorgal Aegirsson, players will unravel the mysteries of his past and take on many foes. Problems divine and human stand in your way, and it’s clear that this will lean heavily into mythology.
Originally penned by Belgian writer Jean Van Hamme and Polish graphic artist Grzegorz Rosiński, Thorgal isn’t likely to be a generic Norse fantasy knock off. The comic book dabbled with the Legend of Atlantis, sci-fi, and even horror tropes. The genre mash up has huge potential if it threads the needle and delivers something that stands out among the crowd. You can check out what little we know about the upcoming Thorgal video game on the official website now.
