TMNT: Splintered Fate has officially reached version 2.0, and Mega Evil Corp is going all out with a giant shell-shaking update. The King’s Gambit is available now as a free update for all players, completing the game’s main story while adding a new end-game challenge, a friendly Lair companion, and plenty of reasons for veteran players to jump back into the roguelike.
The biggest addition is the long-awaited showdown with the Rat King, who finally takes his place as the game’s ultimate threat. Getting to him won’t be as simple as walking into the next level, however. Players must first defeat Shredder multiple times and rescue Master Splinter before the Rat King’s realm becomes accessible.
The final encounter is designed as an end-game challenge. The Rat King can summon other powerful bosses to fight alongside him, potentially turning an already dangerous battle into a chaotic multi-boss encounter. Defeating him unlocks a new ending and brings the main Splintered Fate campaign to its conclusion. The free update also adds Pepperoni, a dinosaur companion who hangs around the Home Lair. She may not be much help in combat, but she has developed the most important survival skill in the TMNT universe: stealing pizza.
For players who aren’t finished torturing the Foot Clan, Mega Evil Corp has also launched paid DLC featuring Slash, bringing the playable roster to eight heroes. The massive Turtle trades speed for raw power, using claws, body slams, rolls, and knockback attacks to control groups of enemies. Slash has natural affinities for Water and Ooze abilities and comes with five new Artifacts. Slash also has an Enraged mode that temporarily increases his speed and damage, while his unique Tool unleashes a meteor-like explosion capable of dealing heavy Dark damage. Players can unlock him by defeating Leatherhead.
A separate Samurai Armor Pack adds new outfits for the four original Turtles and previously purchased DLC characters. Those looking to grab everything can opt for the new Platinum Bundle, which includes Slash, Casey Jones & the Junkyard Jam, Metalhead, Alopex, the Samurai armor, and all previous free updates.
The update arrives ahead of the physical Switch 2 Legendary Edition, which is scheduled to launch October 27, with pre-orders now open. Mega Evil Corp also says development will continue as long as there is sufficient player demand.
And because no major TMNT celebration is complete without merchandise, the studio has also launched limited-run Splintered Fate shirts and prints, along with pre-orders for a Pepperoni plush.
