The developers from Stoic Studio and Xbox Game Studios have announced that side-scrolling Action RPG Brawler Towerborne is changing its monetization model. While being in Early Access, the game promised to be a Free-to-Play adventure with optional in-game purchases of virtual currency. However, at the release, the project will embrace a Buy-to-Play model, receiving standard and Deluxe editions. Moreover, the game won’t require an online connection. It will become a fully offline adventure without any in game purchases or loot boxes.
According to the official FAQ, the players who purchased a Founders Pack or participated in Early Access will retain permanent access to the full game. Moreover, they will also keep all exclusive items they’ve earned. The character progression will carry over, though starting fresh is recommended for the new campaign. Accordingly, the premium currency Belfry Bucks will be retired and converted into a new exclusive currency called Stepstones. All early supporters can redeem it for special in-game resources. Most notably, the Founders Packs will no longer be available for purchase after the full launch.
During the New Game+ Showcase, the developers confirmed that these changes are the result of the dialogue with the community. That includes the story and narrative changes. The players can now expect the full-fledged story arc, with a proper main antagonist and side quests. Moreover, the game balance will receive some changes too, gaining a new difficulty level for the most hardcore players.
Towerborne leaves Early Access on 26 February 2026, coming to PC (Steam), Xbox, and PlayStation 5.
